Our Story
The roots of Stiver Optics go back to a garage workshop and a teenage boy with a love for firearms and craftsmanship. Founder Scott Seacrist grew up in a family that worked with their hands, where problem-solving and precision were part of everyday life. At just fifteen, he built his first custom Ruger 10/22. Unsatisfied with the standard mounts, he modified a pair of original Buehler mounts to fit the rifle. That early project was more than a challenge—it was the spark that ignited a lifelong pursuit of precision machining and firearm design.
While his college classmates were traveling on spring break, Scott was buying a manual lathe off eBay, eager to hone his craft. Over the next two decades, he immersed himself in machining, gunsmithing, and product design. He built custom rifles, refurbished vintage firearms, and repeatedly returned to Buehler-style rings and mounts—studying, refining, and redesigning them to integrate seamlessly with modern rifles.
Scott’s journey as a craftsman has always run parallel to his career as an educator. Today, he teaches automated manufacturing, CNC machining, CAD design, and product engineering, passing on the skills of precision and problem-solving to the next generation. The same principles he teaches in the classroom—attention to detail, pride in workmanship, and respect for tradition—are the principles behind every product that carries the Stiver Optics name.
As the popularity of 30mm scope tubes rose, Scott recognized the need to bring Buehler’s timeless design into the modern era. After years of development, he launched a complete Buehler system that merges classic styling with modern CNC accuracy, durability, and versatility. The result: scope mounts and rings that not only perform at the highest level but also look at home on rifles with rich walnut stocks and deep blued steel.
For Scott, Stiver Optics is more than a company—it’s the culmination of a lifetime of passion for machining, firearms, and American craftsmanship. Each mount reflects a deep respect for tradition, a love of precision, and a commitment to building products that will be trusted for generations.
